Video: Prepare Yourself for Swimsuit Season

Get your body ready for your bathing suit with these simple tips

It won’t be long before you find yourself at the beach or the pool. But will your body be ready for your bathing suit?

Here are some simple tips to get your body beach-ready:

Add more whole grains to your diet. Whole grains keep us fuller, longer, which will help with weight management. So if you swap your rice, your bread, and your pasta from white to brown, making sure you get 100 percent whole grain options, you can do a tremendous amount of benefit to your health.

Plant a garden.
Gardeners tend to eat more vegetables, and you’ll benefit from the physical activity itself.

Choose healthier desserts. Eat low-fat yogurt topped with berries or granola instead of ice cream. Or you can even top a whole grain waffle with peanut butter or almond butter.

Skip the sugary, high-calorie coffee drinks. We’re not talking about the black coffee you have at your house; we’re talking about the coffee drinks you’re stopping for on your way to work that are filled with calories and fat. Try a low-fat smoothie instead.

How do you get ready for swimsuit season?

Please nutritionists–make the info about making us healthy not about making us look a certain way. I turn to this site for medical info, not approaches like the ones in every women’s magazine making women hate our bodies!

Thanks for your great feedback and for visiting Health Hub from Cleveland Clinic. My philosophy in my practice is to improve people’s health inside and out, and all the ideas I provided in the blog are actually concepts that will help you to prevent risk for certain chronic diseases. The concepts I suggested will help to reduce your risk for certain cancers, heart disease, and stroke and will reduce overall inflammation in the body. I’ve tried to reach a large audience with a fun concept that most of my patients at Cleveland Clinic are coming to me for —”How can I lose weight and look great this summer?” — but I can definitely see how it could be taken the wrong way. I hope you incorporate the ideas I presented in this blog and keep a look out for other topics down the road … none will mention bathing suits, I promise! — Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RD, LD
