A lot of us love eating out. But if you’re trying to lose weight, all those meals at restaurants add up.

One study found that women who ate lunch out at least once a week lost about 5 pounds fewer than women who ate out less frequently. Researchers found that not eating out for lunch — in addition to keeping a food journal and not skipping meals — was a key part of successful weight loss.

Eating out is one of those habits that can pack on the pounds so avoid it when you can. But when you need to go out,  be smart about your portion sizes and what you order.
