Austin Petsche, a junior from Western Reserve Academy, is a student volunteer this summer at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus. He will be guest blogging over the next few weeks about places to see in the Heart and Vascular Institute.
Before walking into the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute I didn’t know what to expect. Usually when one thinks of a hospital, cramped waiting rooms, crying babies and out-dated magazines come to mind. So upon hearing that I would be assigned to the Heart & Vascular Institute, I immediately recalled the negative hospital experiences of my past. I first walked into the institute and was in complete shock. It was as if I had walked into a five star hotel. The air was clean, the rooms were spacious and serene, and relaxing music was playing. Everything around me was so full of color; I couldn’t get enough of it. There was just so much to take in. The architecture was stunning, the art beautiful and capturing. For moments at a time I would forget I was in a hospital and drift off to my own little world.

Week 1: A place to de-stress
One of my favorite places to visit to unwind is the Rooftop Terrace, located on the 10th floor of the Miller Family Pavilion. It has a spectacular view of theCleveland skyline andLake Erie. The Rooftop Terrace is a wonderful spot to catch up with friends or to just be alone. If you are trying to find a place to take your significant other for a special night, the rooftop is the place to be. Watching the sunset or simply walking along the outside, feeling the calming lake breeze will soothe anyone.
Sometimes, it can be difficult to de-stress by yourself. Because of this, Cleveland Clinic holds Rooftop Terrace events. These events range from heart healthy cooking classes, stimulating chair massages, and Sunset Yoga retreats. Maybe you are the type who needs a meditative labyrinth walk or to sit down with a warm cup of tea during Rooftop Terrace high tea. Whatever it may be that catches your interest, the Rooftop Terrace is a guaranteed relaxation resort.
