Every 10 minutes, a new person adds his or her name to the national waiting list for an organ transplant.

“There are diseases that have no cure, which are only helped by transplants,” says Charles Miller, MD, Director of Cleveland Clinic’s Transplant Center. He says, “People on the waiting lists have families and children who need them. Some day, it could be your own family or loved one who needs an organ. I think no person should be denied.”

One person’s donation can save or improve as many as 50 lives. “We need to be generous and help one another,” Dr. Miller says. Transplant surgeons have great respect for people who donate their organs, he stresses. They carefully recover organs without any outward, visible signs.
