Many of us want to eating a heart-healthy diet, but making the right food choices can be a challenge – especially at the grocery store.

The sheer number of choices can seem overwhelming. Merely choosing a loaf of bread from the dozens of brands and types that line the shelves can be daunting.

A good rule of thumb is to focus on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean sources of protein, and healthy fats. Be sure to read ingredient labels on packaged foods and pass on the high-sugar products such as colored dry cereals or soda.
