Capitalizing on their football rivalry, Cleveland and Pittsburgh will compete during the promotion to see which city purchases more bagels in support of breast cancer awareness. The city purchasing the most Pink Ribbon Bagels in October will receive an additional $10,000 donation from Panera Bread/Covelli Enterprises.

In addition, Cleveland Clinic will host an educational series in October so that community members can learn about breast cancer and to raise awareness of the disease. Facilitated by Iyaad Hasan, CNP, and Rene Barrat-Gordon, LISW, the events will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at Panera Bread locations in Solon (Oct. 3), Medina (Oct. 10) and North Olmsted (Oct. 17).

Shaped in the form of the iconic pink ribbon, Pink Ribbon Bagels feature cherry chips, dried cherries and cranberries, vanilla, honey, and brown sugar, and are baked fresh at each bakery-cafe. This is the second year the Cleveland-area Panera Bread bakery-cafes are supporting cancer survivorship programs through the sale of Pink Ribbon Bagels.

In addition, during the months of September and October, Cleveland Clinic is the recipient of the Operation Dough-Nation canisters in each of the Cleveland-area bakery-cafes. All money raised will support the cancer survivorship programs at Taussig Cancer Institute.
