From Pericarditis to Completing a Half Marathon

Learn more about recurrent pericarditis

We asked Justin Mohler if he would allow us to post this letter of thanks to Dr. Klein. During our web chat in July, so many people asked about pericarditis, I am sure people would be happy to know Mr. Mohler completed a 1/2 marathon one year after beginning treatment. Thanks for sharing your story.

Dear Dr. Klein,

I am not sure if you will remember me as you have thousands of patients. But to help jog your memory, I was a former patient that had acute pericarditis. My last appointment with you was almost a year ago to the day (8/12/10). During that visit you gave me a clean bill of health and I was able stop taking all medications. Most often people remember my wife because she is a red head (very beautiful).

I wanted to send you a note of thanks for everything you did for me. We have many blessings in our life and one that I will be eternally grateful for is having you touch our lives. Before we met, I visited several doctors that were unable to help. I am so thankful that the world expert in pericarditis was only a couple hours away, basically in my backyard. Yesterday (8/14/11) I ran a half marathon in Columbus, Ohio, which gave me two hours to reflect on my blessings. During that time I thought a lot about you and how thankful I am that you were brought into my life. Had our paths never crossed, I doubt that running a half marathon would have ever been possible. Your help also allowed me to be a better husband and father, for which I am truly grateful.

In summary, I wanted to thank you and to let you know you made huge difference in my life in such a positive way. I will always remember what you did for me and my family and will be eternally grateful. I wish you the best!

Best regards,
Justin P. Mohler
