Do you know how pick out ripe corn without opening the husk? The problem with opening it is that you expose it to the air. You want the husk to be tightly wrapped with a damp feeling. Look at the tassels, which should be sticky and brown. Feel for the kernels to be sure none are punched in and that it feels pretty firm.
