A: The American Heart Association recommends 150 minutes of moderate aerobic physical activity per week. If you break that down, that means a half-hour, most days of the week.
Even if you get 10 minutes of physical activity in the morning, then 10 more on your lunch break, then 10 more in the evening, you’re still going to get the benefit. That’s terrific training for the heart and will allow your heart and your muscles to remain conditioned.
Many people use pedometers now, and if that’s what you choose to do, try to get in 10,000 steps a day. Some data has shown that even if you get in your half-hour of exercise a day, but sit for long periods of time, you may be harming your body by sitting so much. So if you have to sit at your job, try to get up once an hour and walk around to avoid sitting for hours on end.
